How can I translate in the app?
There are two main options:
- Text: You type or paste some text in the given field, send it, and right after the virtual interpreter of Hand Talk, Hugo, translates into Sign Language.
- Audio: By clicking on the microphone icon, the app captures the ambient audio and you can speak at that moment. Shortly after speaking you can click in the button with an "X" to end the recording. If the app identifies silence after the speech, it will send the content automatically. After that, wait a few seconds and view the translation.
Do I need the internet to translate?
Yes. In order to use machine translation your device must be connected to the internet. This is a common prerequisite for all the best automatic translation systems.
Every day several improvements and new signals are automatically inserted into the platform, so you need a connection. Otherwise, Hugo will only use the typology (spelling) of each translated word.
How to use translation history?
Just open the main menu by clicking the three horizontal bars icon in the upper left corner, clicking in the clock icon named "History." You'll see the list with the latest translations done. To view a translation again, click on the desired text and Hugo will perform the translation automatically.
If you'd like to delete an accomplished translation, simply click in the trash icon at the top of the screen in the History area and click the trash icon with an x on it. If you want to delete all history, click on the text "Delete All" from the top bar.
If you're using your iOS device, slide your finger over the phrase to the left to see the icons with these features.
